New Agreement Includes Transaction-based Revenue Sharing
Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) today announced it has signed a
four-year agreement with the Third Circuit Court of Michigan for its
Odyssey® File & Serve software, part of Tyler's Odyssey integrated
justice solution.
Tyler's Odyssey product will support the Third Circuit's mandatory
e-filing pilot project for civil cases. In 2010, more than 28,000 civil
cases were filed in the Third Circuit, one of the largest circuit courts
in the United States, consisting of 61 judges and three operating
divisions with jurisdiction over civil, criminal and family matters in
Wayne County, home to Detroit, Mich.
The Third Circuit Court selected Odyssey's File
& Serve application to facilitate the electronic filing of
pleadings, motions, briefs, responses, lists, orders, judgments and
notices. Future plans include expanding e-filing to other divisions of
the court. The court also uses Tyler's Odyssey Court Case Management
solution.
Tyler's transaction-based revenue sharing model enables the court to
implement Odyssey File & Serve with no upfront cost. Courts are
increasingly attracted to this type of arrangement because it provides a
budget-neutral way to acquire and deploy technology. With Odyssey File &
Serve, documents can be filed any time of day or night through a single,
secure, centralized online portal. Attorney and public users are charged
a transaction fee for the convenience of online filing. Once e-filed
documents are accepted by the court clerk, the official case docket is
instantly updated and access to the filed pleadings is immediately
available electronically.
E-filing is a relatively new recurring revenue stream for Tyler and is
expected to be a rapidly growing component of Tyler's subscription-based
revenues. The Third Circuit Court is the 12th Odyssey File &
Serve client nationally and the fourth in Michigan.
