Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) today announced it is sponsoring
the YMCA Dallas Youth and Government program and has pledged $23,500 in
student scholarships and general financial support for the YMCA of
Metropolitan Dallas program and district conference.
YMCA Youth and Government is a youth-led, civic engagement program for
high school and middle school students. It's an exciting, hands-on
experience in the mechanics of the state legislative and judicial
process of government, which includes a district conference in December,
and a four-day state conference in January 2014, in the state capital of
Austin, Texas.
"At last year's Youth and Government state conference, we observed
students trying real-world criminal cases in mock courts, and presenting
their bills for the legislature with such passion that we immediately
realized supporting these remarkable young people would be a terrific
way for Tyler to give back to the North Texas community," said Bruce
Graham, president of Tyler's Courts & Justice Division. "It's energizing
to watch the next generation of judges, attorneys and lawmakers in
action. Tyler looks forward to sponsoring this year's Youth and
Government program, and to hopefully extending our relationship in the
future."
The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas is the state's largest district, with
more than 80 separate clubs of students throughout North Texas
participating in the Youth and Government program. Tyler will award the
following scholarships to Dallas-area students:
-
Three individual scholarships to the winning senior student judge,
prosecuting attorney and defense attorney at the 2013 District Youth
and Government conference. Trial winners will be determined by actual
sitting judges who volunteer to observe the mock trials.
-
One scholarship to the participating senior student who submits a bill
demonstrating the most innovative use of technology to further
government. Tyler will judge the bills that are submitted and select
the winning scholarship recipient.
"As the nation's largest software company focused solely on software
solutions for governments and schools, Tyler Technologies is a great fit
for our Youth and Government program," said Gordon Echtenkamp, CEO of
the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. "We are very pleased to welcome Tyler
as exclusive software company sponsor of this year's Youth and
Government program, and are eager to have Tyler help our students more
fully understand how technology helps government more effectively meet
the needs of its many constituents."
Tyler Technologies' headquarters is in the Dallas suburb of Plano,
Texas, where more than 450 employees work in the company's new corporate
campus in Legacy Park. Plano is also home to Tyler's Courts & Justice
Division, whose technology has been selected by states, counties and
courts that serve more than 75 million residents nationwide.
