Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) has signed a seven-year
software-as-a-service (SaaS) contract with the city of Benicia,
California, for Tyler's Munis®
enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution. The agreement includes
hosting services, related professional services, maintenance and support.
The city needed a new ERP solution because its legacy system could not
support the modern financial and human resources applications needed to
accommodate growth. The city preferred the hosted model for several
reasons, including the ease with which multiple departments can access
and benefit from the system.
After a competitive review, the city selected Munis based on Tyler's
expertise with ERP projects and its success in hosting solutions with
other like-sized cities in California. Benicia chose multiple Munis
applications, including financial management, human resources, payroll
and content management.
With Munis, several departments can deliver services using one
comprehensive system, which saves taxpayer dollars by enabling city
staff to work more efficiently. The city cited areas of cost savings,
such as reduced hardware spending and lower energy costs resulting from
a smaller server footprint, in choosing to have Munis delivered via
Tyler's SaaS model. Also, because Tyler manages software maintenance
under SaaS, some of the city's IT staff time can be reallocated to other
high-priority projects.
Located in the San Francisco Bay area, the city of Benicia has
approximately 22,000 residents and 220 employees.
