OLATHE, Kan. -
NIC
Inc. (NASDAQ: EGOV),
the dominant provider of digital government services, congratulates
eight of its state government partners for being ranked as the best
state government websites in the country - with NIC government partners
sweeping the Top 5. This is the third consecutive year NIC state
government partners took all of the Top 5 honors. The rankings were
announced by the Center
for Digital Government as part of its annual "Best
of the Web" competition.
For the first time in the state's history, Maryland
took top honors, ranking as the best state government website in the
country. The official state website, http://www.maryland.gov,
was recognized for its state-of-the-art Enterprise Widget Platform. This
platform provides state agencies with centralized and standardized code
allowing for rapid development and deployment of a variety of widgets.
These widgets include NearYou, Online Services, Google Site Search and
Header, which are available across state agencies expanding the state's
open data platform.
Rounding out the Top 5 were Utah
in second place, Mississippi
in third place, Texas
in fourth place, and Indiana
and Nebraska
tied for fifth place. NIC partner states Iowa
and Rhode
Island were recognized as finalists.
"Congratulations to our state government partners and our team in
Maryland for taking top honors in this year's Best of the Web
competition," said Harry Herington, NIC's Chief Executive Officer and
Chairman of the Board. "For nearly 25 years our company has focused on
making government more accessible for constituents. I applaud Maryland's
success in finding new ways to quickly deploy important digital
government services."
The Center
for Digital Government is an international research and advisory
