River East Transcona School District in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Magnolia
Independent School District in Texas received awards for their
innovative uses of Tyler solutions.
Tyler's Excellence Awards recognize organizations that deploy Tyler
software in novel and impactful ways that can establish new best
practices for other jurisdictions.
Award submissions were evaluated by a panel of Tyler leadership, and
entries were judged on business value, maturity, innovation and
relevance to other public sector organizations. Additional criteria met
by award winners include:
• Creating a unique process that utilizes a Tyler application
• Realizing significant savings and efficiencies after implementing a
Tyler product
• Increasing staff productivity by implementing a Tyler product
• Empowering employees, citizens or vendors
The River East Transcona School District implemented Tyler SIS in 2012
to replace a legacy system which only collected some data digitally,
leaving the rest to paper records. In the three years since
implementation, the district has also added the Tyler Pulse™ data
analytics system and the Versatrans transportation management solution
to their technology stack, integrating them with Tyler SIS. Through
integration of these products, district staff can now access all
pertinent student data digitally and know that the data is consistent
across systems. This has lowered paper costs, and reduced time spent on
software training and on double entry by district staff.
The Magnolia Independent School District successfully used Tyler's
student transportation software to meet the challenge of shrinking
budgets, rising fuel prices and a growing student population. The
district implemented Versatrans in 2008, replacing a less efficient,
paper-based routing system. At that time, the transportation department
was tasked with cutting its budget by 10 percent, despite record-high
fuel prices. Through route optimization with Versatrans Routing &
Planning™, the district met that budget goal and, although the district
population has increased 30 percent since 2007, the department has
managed to lower operating costs by more than $1 million. The district
now uses several applications from the Versatrans transportation
management suite, including Versatrans Triptracker® and Versatrans
Fleetvision®, and plans to implement GPS on buses in the near future.
